worth more than a drop? – check yes or no. Poetry by Jenna Polich
when your maker discards you, / chooses the liquor of life over you / - his own flesh and blood - / how can you believe that you are worth more / than a drop?
what happens when you try to feel worthy / in someone else – a companion? / sometimes, you will be accepted and cherished / before you are told what you have always known / – you are not worth more than a drop. / you are told this so many times, you begin to melt / away, hoping to be picked up and absorbed by the sun / to become a part of something greater / before you are spit back down onto the dirt / as you scatter and soak in to where you belong.
what else can happen? / sometimes, but very rarely, you find / your very own prometheus. / he finds drops of you littered in the mud / and reforms you, shapes and mold you back / to your original state, provides security / in the warmth of the fire in his chest / and the long arms wrapped around you. you cling / to the warmth to hear the crackling / of the flames as you start / to become worth more than / a drop. worth more than the sun itself.
