Empty, Poetry by Skylar Cooper
His keys are still hanging
by the door. The dogs sniff
his shoes at the end
of the bed. I fold and slip
his wallet into my drawer;
debit cards and cash never
to be used again. My wedding ring
glints on my finger, wondering where
her partner is. I slip it off and fold
myself into the sheets. The dogs lay
at my feet, but the bed does not feel full
without his hand to grasp
in the middle of the night
during a storm. I roll over and face
the side of the bed, when I close
my eyes, I can still feel his morning kiss.
I reach out my hand
and grasp the cold air.
