There you stood

Back to the world

Facing the sea.

It seems not even the waves

Or the deep salt liquid

Can turn you around.

I didn’t know what to do

To make you endure it again.

Tear stained face;

If someone asked you

What was wrong you’d say,

“Nothing’s wrong. The sun’s in my eyes.”

And the waves keep crashing steadily,

As your tears do.

But now I endure there -

My boards based in the sand;

The dock that you lean against -

Not revealing anything but you,

Trying to comfort the only way I know how;

By holding you up.
